    Scientists, throughout the years, have presented theories of why migratory birds such as geese fly in a V-shaped formation. Not long ago, a team of scientists from Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, in Villiers en Bois, France, was given a unique opportunity to study great white pelicans that had been trained to fly behind aircraft and motorboats for a feature film. These French scientists found that the birds’ heart rates decreased when they were flying together and they were able to glide more often—reducing the energy they exerted during their migration journey.
