  • Elliot shared from Holy Bible Text Edition NLT: New Living Translation (Text Edition: Full Size) by Tyndale
And he ordered us to preach everywhere and to testify that Jesus is the one appointed by God to be the judge of all—the living and the dead. 43 He is the one all the prophets testified about, saying that everyone who believes in him will have their sins forgiven through his name.”
    Note: Our message!

“ And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto Thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak Thy Word, by stretching forth Thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the Name of Thy holy child Jesus ” (v. 29-30).
Note: This should be my daily prayer.

I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God ” (1Cor.2:2-5).

Jesus wanted men to admire Him and trust Him. That would have been their salvation. But He did not change who He was in order to win their approval. Nor can we change who He was, or who we are in Him.

You can be your own worst enemy, but you can also be your own best employee. Remember to see yourself as two people. One of you is all wise, all rational, and always dedicated to the long term good. The other one of you tries to talk you into short-term delights. You are Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket wrapped up in one human body. One part of you is encouraging you to act with self restraint and courage. At exactly the same moment, the second part of your makeup is feverishly trying to persuade you to do what you really feel like doing. The only question is, “Who is going to lead?”
Note: The flesh vs the spirit. Wisdom vs foolishness. Great point in this section.

If doing the wrong thing did not usually feel so good, you would act intelligently all the time. If negative impulses did not have good feelings working in tandem with them as allies, it would be a piece of cake for positive impulses to dominate.
    Note: truth.
