Teenagers in Finland did less homework than Americans, but scored at the top of the world on international tests, which was weird, since Finland had been until fairly recently a largely illiterate farming and logging nation. Nothing about it made much sense. Sure, Finland was a small country full of white people, but not even the smallest, whitest states in America could compete with Finland’s education results. Same-sex rights The issue of same-sex marriage rights soon will be addressed by the U.S. Supreme Court. The possibility of finally having my civil rights validated and experiencing the recognition of my 31-year relationship with Ann could be the fulfillment of a lifetime dream. We have raised five children, cared for dying parents and held numerous newly born grandchildren. Our life together has paralleled the lives of most heterosexual couples: We’ve bought and paid for our home, earned graduate degrees, started new professional careers and, after many years, retired from full-time work. The...

Lord, show me how my life can be straightened out, so that your healing, restoring power may flow through me to the world around.
Note: A good prayer for today
