    Do you know that Jesus didn’t have to die on a cross to cleanse a leper? He didn’t have to die on a cross to make a blind man see. He created that leper and those eyes in the beginning. Every miracle Jesus performed, he could have done without ever going to the Cross. There was only one thing he couldn’t do without the Cross. Jesus could not turn around the selfishness inside me. And God knew that if he did not turn me around, I would damn myself by living for myself. The only way for salvation to come was for God himself to come down here and become a human being.

    The church has reversed the order of its priorities. Jesus said, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel” (Mark 16:15 KJV). In Christian missions, we go out and minister primarily to the physical needs of people, and then if we get to put in a word about Christ, so much the better. Christ intended us to go because of a burning passion to tell the world about his goodness, his glory, and his love. Evangelism is to be the number-one motive for all Christian service.     One of the beautiful things about God and about human life is that he does not leave us long without problems. He sees to it that we have difficulties, and he works at ordering our situations so we are not trouble free. This helps us to stay in relation to him.

    Never settle for a secondhand picture of God. Search the Scriptures to find the true picture of God, and when you begin to glimpse his true nature, you will find he is better than you could have ever dreamed.
