The pair last year were two kids from the Seam who’d never, not one day of their lives, had enough to eat. And when they did have food, table manners were surely the last thing on their minds. Peeta’s a baker’s son. My mother taught Prim and me to eat properly, so yes, I can handle a fork and knife.
Note: In the world of District 12, Katniss perceives a baker as being from an upper strata. Wow.

The woods always look different at night. Even with the glasses, everything has an unfamiliar slant to it. As if the daytime trees and flowers and stones had gone to bed and sent slightly more ominous versions of themselves to take their places.
Note: This is how the kids feel on night walks at Balarat: "The woods always look different at night. Even with the glasses, everything has an unfamiliar slant to it. As if the daytime trees and flowers and stones had gone to bed and sent slightly more ominous versions of themselves to take their places."

I didn’t want to take the elevator because taking the elevator is a Last Days kind of activity at Support Group, so I took the stairs.
Note: Extra motivation for me to take the stairs whenever I can. Whenever I could last week, I went up and down the little stairs in the PT room whenever I could. I've lost my stair legs on a couple previous hospitalization which bites because my house is pretty much all stairs.

I was still tongue-tied whenever I pictured his perfect face. I was well aware that my league and his league were spheres that did not touch. So I shouldn’t be at all anxious to see him today.
Note: #Twilight My league and his league were spheres that did not touch.

I couldn’t fathom his interest, but he continued to stare at me with penetrating eyes, as if my dull life’s story was somehow vitally important.
Note: #Twilight He continued to stare at me...as if my dull life's story was somehow vitally important.
