    I think it’s possible that all those ministers, those dubious “holy men” who represent God as looking down at us—decreeing from His Olympian perch that we are all born miserable offenders with nothing to save us except maybe a lifetime of groveling—are cruelly missing the point of, for example, the Sermon on the Mount; and that the essence of what’s really going on is that God is inside all of us, approachable by each of us, loving each of us, exactly as most of the great prophets have patiently explained.
