Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Chapter 1 It
Note: 2 Star Review 110210 by Laurenpie: ROMANCE Genre "LACKS DEPTH, TOO PREDICTABLE" In spite of the clever rhetoric, the plot and characters are simply too predictable and archetypical. Perhaps this novel is a classic, and an original of the romance genre, but that doesn't make up for the fact that it, in fact, is romance genre: WAY to simplistic. Couldn't stand the book, not when I read it at 20 and not when I gave it another chance at 49. Disappointing because I loved the movie "Sense and Sensibility" (with Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman), so I thought I would like the author. And yes, I do love Dickens. Despite her myriad adoring fans, in my opinion, the Jane Austen's writing lacks depth and shouldn't be compared to Dickens.
