The Cartesian approach to scientific inquiry discounted the value of emotion in truth seeking. Emotion was considered the antithesis of reason. Philosophers laid the foundations of economics and capitalism with this in mind. Adam Smith concurred. He famously talked about market outcomes being shaped by an invisible hand moved by the reasoned decisions of people acting in their own interests. The invisible hand was emotionless.
Note: In a cartesian manner we should stop being so cartesian and make more use of right brain, aka heart.
