Stars appear to belong to groups that form recognizable patterns in the sky. These star patterns are called constellations.
Three circumpolar constellations that you should be able to pick out on the star maps are Cassiopeia, Cepheus, and Ursa Minor. After you know their outlines, try to find them in the sky above the northern horizon. Note: At latitude 40°N or higher, Ursa Major and Draco are also circumpolar.
