Whether we are Christians is not a matter of what we do for God. It is a matter of letting God do something for us that we cannot do for ourselves.

one reason I would like as much education as I can get: I would like that person within me to be as intelligent as I can make him. If I am going to have to listen to him, I would like for him to have something worthwhile to say. That is also why I need as pure a heart as Christ’s blood and the Holy Spirit can give me. There is enough in the world to defile and corrupt me without an impure stream flowing within.
Note: The connection between education, holy thinking, and holy living....
Do you know that Jesus didn’t have to die on a cross to cleanse a leper? He didn’t have to die on a cross to make a blind man see. He created that leper and those eyes in the beginning. Every miracle Jesus performed, he could have done without ever going to the Cross. There was only one thing he couldn’t do without the Cross. Jesus could not turn around the selfishness inside me. And God knew that if he did not turn me around, I would damn myself by living for myself. The only way for salvation to come was for God himself to come down here and become a human being.
Note: When we point to the cross and fail to mention holiness, we are guilty of proclaiming only half of the gospel.
